I could have gone into the trove of photos I took at the San Diego Zoo to provide a diverse collage of tails, but I’d rather feature our very own — now well-loved by many of you – Jello. When you get kissed by her, you know she means it!
Humans have 5 million olfactory receptors in our noses. Beagles have 225. However, their sense of taste is inferior to ours with a ratio of only one taste bud to our six. Dogs have no real sense of taste as we know it, but oh that nose — knows!
At the other end is a flag that helps dogs navigate on all fours, at the same time it signals their limbic reactions to the messages received through the nose. When Jello’s tail is flying at full sail, I can tell she is engaged and confident.
When she’s really excited (like at the scent of a rabbit) her tail goes wild!
If you’ve heard the expression “having your nose out of joint” you may understand the concept of having your tail out of joint!
Something in the wind has her attention!

Beagles were bred to live and hunt in packs, so absent another hound, they love to be stroked, rubbed, snuggled and hugged. Thanks for sending her just what she likes!!
